I need some help with CORY....
1. William Cory md. Mary Earle in Portsmouth, RI (1656)
2. William Cory s/o #1 md. Martha Cook(e) in Portsmouth, RI (1686)
3. William Cory s/o #2 md. Deliverance Durfee in Portsmouth, RI (1724)
4. Caleb Cory s/o #3 md. Mary Slocum (first wife)
My question is this...Caleb and Mary Slocum had several children
together...they are...Bathsheba, Ebenezer, William, Desire, Thomas, and Mary
P.....the second to the youngest, Thomas, was b. May 27, 1765 in Tiverton,
Newport Co., RI...unfortunately, the youngest daughter, Mary P., does seem to
be recorded anywhere....I have a feeling that Mary P. may have been born at
the time of or very close to the death of her mother, Mary (Slocum) Cory.
Thomas, Mary P.'s brother, died in Marietta, OH....I believe that Mary P., who
married, had children, and died in Ohio, came to Ohio with her older brother
Thomas.
Does anyone find anything on Mary b. ca 1769 in Portmouth, RI??????? Mary P.
is in her father's Will in Tiverton (dated 29 Dec, 1792, probated 1 Apr
1793)...thanks for any and all help....Susan

First, let me apoligize for not keeping up with the recent "traffic" in the
passenger list queries, but the "Thomas Angell on the LYON with Roger
Williams in 1636" caught my eye.
I believe that Roger Williams (and the rest of the passengers) came over on
the LYON in 1630.
Thomas Angell does not appear on Wintrhop's list of passengers on the LYON,
nor does Roger Williams ever mention Thomas Angell as his servant.
There is a very detailed (as much as records allow) chronicle of Thomas
Angell in "The Ancestry of Emily Jane Angell" by Dean Crawford Smith,
published by NEHGS in 1992. If anyone is particularly interested in this,
please let me know and I will scan these several pages tomorrow and I can
either post them to the list or e-mail them individually.

A Bit of details on this Moses Barber. He is the second child of Captain
Nathan Barber and Thankful Maxson. Nathan incidentally is the son of Benjamin
Barber and Mary Tefft. Benjamin Barber was also married to Mary Perry and had a
son Benjamin Perry Barber. Benjamin Perry Barber married Hannah Marryott which
is my own line and Nathan Barber's first child Susannah Barber (Moses Barbers
older sister) married Nathan Marryott, my own 5th great grandfather. I am in
the process of writing the full Marryott genealogy and also updating the Maxson
genealogy. I would be interested in corresponding with anyone attached directly
to this Moses Barber b. 26 Jul 1757 (who incidentally married Avis Maxson, a
daughter of Stephen Maxson)

Hi gang,
These are the births of the children of Susannah West (Waist) and Moses
Barber that are recorded in the SK Town Council Proceedings Book 1, part 2,
page 15 - note that it does have some differences between some of the dates. i
also have children listed for Moses and Susannah that are not in the TCP book
- someone mentioned that some of the children were recorded elsewhere. Here
goes:
Children born to Moses Barber and Susannah his wife:
Dinah 5-Jan-1693
Lydia 24-Feb-1695
Samuel 8-Nov-1695
Susannah 25-Oct-1697
Thomas 19-Oct-1699
Joseph 16-Oct-1701
Martha 30-Nov-1703
Ruth 23-Jun-1705
Benjamin 10-Mar-1707
Mary 13-Mar-1709
Ezekiel 6-Mar-1710
Abigail 6-Jan-1713
If I find anything else out about these two I will send it on. I don't
descend directly from them but some of my cousins do. I descend from
Susannah's brother William who m. Abiah Sprague. I have found some of my info
on that branch in the History of Hingham, Vol II&III as well as in the Soule
book by the Soc. of Mayflower Descendants.
If anyone wants what I have on that line, let me know.
Happy hunting, Donna in RI

Hi Beth,

I have a photocopy from vol. 1 pg 70 North Kingston Vol 1 1700-1870 of
the marriage of THOMAS PARKER and MARTHA BARBER on October 5, 1727. The
marriage is also listed, in the VOL 5 South Kingstown, Part III, V.R. of
Rhode Island, on page 7. The groom is also listed as THOMAS PARKER, not
POTTER.
Written in the clerk's handwriting right above the THOMAS PARKER & MARTHA
BARBER marriage, is the marriage of MARY BARBER to SAMUEL TEFFT, of John,
on October 1, 1727.

Hello
I have a Deborah Briggs who married Joseph Brownell ca 1768 in Little

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Looking for information regarding a Phebe Hopkins. She married David
Vallet(Date unknown)
A son born abt 1788. The son's name was Stephen N. Vallet.
I have no date of birth nor place of birth for David nor Phebe.
Stephen married a Freelove Greene. I don't have a date of marriage.
The information that I have shows that there were 7(seven) children born to
Stephen and Freelove. The children were all born in Kinderhook, N.Y.
I have no information as to when they moved to New York.
No information regarding the birthplace or the birthdate of Freelove
Greene.
If anyone has information regarding these people or tips as to how to get
the information, I would deeply appreciate it. I am a ggggrandaughter of
David and Phebe and a gggreat grandaughter of Stephen and Freelove.
I would appreciate any information....any clues. Thank you.

Elizabeth Tefft Carpenter was the daughter of Samuel Tefft (son of John and
Mary) and Elizabeth Jenks (Jenckes). The Samuel that married Marcy Barber
was Elizabeth's nephew, son of John Tefft and Joanna Sprague.
Timothy Tefft
Can anyone tell me if the Elizabeth Tefft who m. Solomon Carpenter at SK
is the dau of Samuel Tefft and Mercy Barber - as below.

----------
from a previous e-mail .....
I have the following information on Moses and Susannah (West) Barber
from "Moses Barber of South Kingstown, Rhode Island and many
Descendants
1652-1984," compiled by Lois J. (Barber) Schroeder.
Page 1. "... no satisfactory documentary proof has been found of
his
parentage. He was probably born about 1652 as a deposition of 17
Mar
1722 calls him 'aged 70 and upwards.' ..."
"It is possible that a James Barber was the father or grandfather of
Moses. James Barber is said to have come from Berkshire, England.
Landing at Boston in 1633. He later became a resident of Newport.
Some
writers have claimed that James Barber had a son, William who became
the
father of Moses Barber."
"About 1679 Moses Barber married an unknown first wife by whom he
had
three children. ... This first wife appears to have died before
1691
..."
"... Susannah West was probably born about 1674 ..."
Page 2 "Many early writers like Austin and Arnold had interpreted
the
name of this second wife as Susannah Wait ... entries in this diary
have quite firmly established the WEST surname." (NOTE: the best
reading of the South Kingstown marriage record appears to be Waist.
BW)
Moses Barber's children are listed by Schroeder on page 9.
By his first wife.
William b 1680
Sarah, b 25 Mar 1682
Moses, b ca 1683/4
Donna is going to read the births in the South Kingstown records, so
she
can verify the accuracy of the following (Arnold occasionally
misread an
entry as indicated by the Wait/West controversy). I have taken them
from Arnold's "Vital Records of Rhode Island" and they agree with
what
Schroeder has listed. The first 12 are from North Kingstown
(Arnold,
5:NK:57), and the last 2 are from South Kingstown (5:SK:39).
Dinah, b 5 Jan 1692-3
Lydia, b 24 Feb 1693-4
Samuel, b 8 Nov 1695
Susannah, b 23 Oct 1697
Thomas, b 19 Oct 1699
Joseph, b 16 Oct 1701
Martha, b 30 Nov 1703
Ruth, b 23 June _705
Benjamin, b 10 Mar 1706-7
Mercy, b 13 Mar 1708-9
Ezekiel, b 6 Mar 1710
Abigail, b 6 Jan 1712-13
The following two births are recorded in SK.
Daniel, b 22 Apr 1714-5
Ann Barber, b 8 Oct 1717
Interestingly, Moses' son Moses had 6 children born and recorded in
SK
between 1705 and 1715-16, at the same time his father's youngest 7
children were being born! If he were born in 1652, the elder Moses
was
65 at the time his youngest daughter was born! Susannah was a
youthful
43 years old. Quite a progeny.
The best source for genealogical information is the original records
as
Donna is researching. I have taken this information from secondary
sources.
On the subject of the name of Moses' first wife. Ann Babcock has
been
suggested. In the line with the birth of their first child in 1680
Moses is said to have married first about 1679. The Babcock
genealogy
by Stephen Babcock (1903) lists only one Ann Babcock (of the proper
age), b ca 1665, dau of John and Mary (Lawton) Badcock. This places
her
marriage at age 14 and first child at age 15. John Babcock died
intestate in 1685 with 9 minor children. Among the children named
is
Ann Barber!!!! (Alden G. Beaman, Ph.D., "Rhode Island Genalogical
Register," "Abstracts of Westerly, R.I. Wills," 4:354 -- taken from
Westerly Land Evidence, 1:124-125.) If this is your line, I suggest
that you order the microfilm from Salt Lake City or read the
original
estate documents in the basement of the vault in the Westerly
Clerk's
office -- enjoy the spiral staircase! This entry apparently has
eluded
a lot of researchers. Austin quotes the estate settlement in his
"Genealogical Dictionary," but does not give Ann's surname.)
