This is my #2 priority problem in R.I.:
I descend from James GARDNER (Jr.) who lived in
North Kingstown, where he died in1840.
He married, probably in the late 1790's, to Dorcas_____.
Death certificates of all their children list the mother
as Dorcas, but give no maiden name for her.
Is she the Dorcas, d/o John WAITE (1742-1817) ?
John Waite was born in Wickford or N.K., and was a
silversmith/goldsmith in S.Kingstown;
he married Margaret SHEFFIELD.
His daughter Dorcas was born 1767-1774, and she is
named in his estate, but not given a last name.
I know that James GARDNER Sr. was associated with
John WAITE.
Is there a deed for settling of estate of John WAITE that
would give names of heirs?
He had an uncle John WAITE who is easily confused
with him.

This is my #1 priority problem in R.I.:
I need help with the wives of Elisha ALDRICH (1792-1855)
of North Smithfield, R.I.
He married first, by 1821, to his cousin Polly WHEELOCK.
The "George Aldrich Gene." says she died in 1835, however
her headstone says she died in 1825.
According to a newspaper account, he remarried in 1828 to
Mrs. Sally WATERMAN. She was born @1799-1801, and was
alive as late as 1865 (for sure) and probably much later.
Is she the Sally ALDRICH who died in 1888 in Woonsocket?
Who was she widow of? What was her maiden name?
Was she married to Seril/Cyril WATERMAN who apparently
died as a young man with no estate?
I have been stuck on Sally's identity for years and years, and
could use some help !

I have only found Sarah recently in the Dorset VT records but haven;t been
able to research in RI. Sources over the net and at the library haven't
provided any connection between Sarah and the TIFFT's that I know of living
in RI
Yes, there is a possibility that the name could be TEFFT.......
Susannah MATHEWSON b 30 Oct 1785; d 13 Feb 1872 Danby, VT.
m. 1808 Stephen BAKER b 1778; d 1858 Danby Vt

Apparently Peter moved to Vermont with mother and siblings circa 1790 then
returned to Rhode Island where he had family and married Susannah in 1808.

Leo Garman proposed some interesting ideas about John Webster and Sarah
Kenyon in "The American Genealogist", Vol. 61, p 85ff. The article was
entitled "The Wife or Wives of John Webster (?1692-1777/81) of Rhode
Island, and The Webster-Kenyon Relationship." Capt. Howard N. Kenyon
based his information on Sarah Kenyon marrying John Webster on a 1716
deed in which John Kenyon called John Webster his "son-in-law." Mr.
Garman points out that "son-in-law" at the time also referred to
step-son. He asserts that there is no evidence that Sarah Kenyon ever
left England and the English baptismal record does not establish that
Sarah was the daughter of John Kenyon, who supposedly was already living
in Rhode Island.

Thank You
William Ray m. Hester Walker at Coventry, RI, 12 Jun 1763. The name
is alternatively spelled Ray or Rea or Wray, and sometimes Rhea.
I think he MAY have been son of Samuel and Mary (Smith) Ray of
Wrentham, MA. Does anyone have information to confirm or refute this?
I think he MAY have also been father of William Ray, born ca. 1766,
who m. 1st Dorcas Eddy, 2nd Abigail Wyman, and was at Clarendon, VT,
in 1787, and later at Hinesburg, VT. Does anyone have information to
confirm or refute this?
Thanks and best regards,

Nicholas Edwards Jr. of Scituate, made his will 1812. I am looking for his
family and ancestry. Does anyone have this name in their RI line? Youngest
daughter Mahalah married Joseph Guile. Believe a sister married Carpenter, and
possibly a King name is connected.

Hi everyone,
Is there anyone who may have any information on the family of Abby
Nichols b.1785 d. 9/8/1833 in Charleston, R.I. She was the daughter of

Folks, I apologize...I just made a real boo-boo. I intended to reply to a
post to the person's address, and I accidently sent it out to the whole
world. My only excuse is that it's very late, and I'm very tired.
I think I'll pack it in now, before I show any more symptoms of
Foot-in-Mouth disease!

Hello, Jen,
It's very late at night now, but tommorrow I'll see what I can find for you,
as I have RI ancestors from 'way back.
But in the meantime, may I give you a little advice? If you are a freshman
in high school, by now you should know the rules of punctuation and
capitalization, and it would make a very much better impression on anyone
reading your letter, if you used them (the rules)!
But you certainly sound like a very polite girl, and that counts a lot,
too!!

I'm having some difficulty with the 1910 census for Providence and
wonder if anyone can help me or point to a resource. My William
BERGIN and family show up on the 1900 census as owning and residing
at 55 Black Street. In the 1910 census, this address is rented by a
HARRINGTON family. Gerri Clarke found me an entry for what is
probably my William in the 1908 Providence city directory at 308 Orm
St, so I went yesterday and looked at the roll of microfilm that
seems to contain this area. I found Orm St enumerated up through the
200s, but no 300 addresses. I've checked http://www.mapquest.com, and
308 Orm Street exists as an address today, so I wonder - where did it
go? There appear to have been railroad lines and perhaps a depot up
through at least WWII, so is this bit of Orm street off on it's own
in another roll, or could the census takers simply have missed it?
Since I'm in San Francisco, I'm a bit mystified about Providence
geography. All assistance or suggestions appreciated.
