Subject: Korean Veteran Commemoration Tribute
Gentlemen
Veterans Affairs has declared 2003 as “The Year of Korea”.
50 years ago the Armistice in Korea was signed.
Canadian Heritage is sponsoring a Ceremony in Ottawa on Sunday 28 Sep 03 for
the Canadian Government to officially and publicly pay tribute to all
Canadian sailors/soldiers/airmen who participated in Korea from 1950 –
1955.
The RCDs participated in Korea!
Our committee is attempting to advise every soldier who served in Korea to
come to Ottawa and participate in this important Event and to join in the
March Past in Review behind the units flag. The Prime Minister will take the
salute.
We have assembled a package that is targeted at your unit’s Canadian
Veterans of Korea. This contains our Information Letter, Registration Form,
Preliminary Agenda and a Hotel/Transportation List.
You are requested to please distribute this information as widely as
possible to your members who served in Korea.
Advise me of the name and mailing address of the unit VIP to whom you
designate to receive the formal Invitation from the Minister of Canadian
Heritage to attend the Sunday Ceremony.
Also, please accept this correspondence as advance notice that we will be
soon requesting that you send one soldier as RCD Flag (NOT the Guidons!)
carrier with a two man escort in best ceremonial uniform and a detachment of
2 members of your unit to march behind your flag. All RCD Korean-era
veterans will march, as a unit, behind your RCD Flag.
There will be NO DND funding for our parade. Our committee has NO
travel/accommodation funds. This will have to be a Regimental Association
sponsored event.
We hope the RCD will be well represented at the Ceremony and March Past.
Please reply to my message to acknowledge your receipt of it and advise to
whom future correspondence on this subject should be addressed.
