To all members of the family and extended family.
Breakout is a registered charity with a mandate to encourage closer ties
between Canadians and their military, past and present.
If you have not had the opportunity to visit our website, I encourage you to
do so at
www.sevenyearproject.com. Check out what a group of civilians think
of us.
Before my father passed away 3 years ago, I had the opportunity to listen to
him talk to my kids about "the good (bad) old days", I realized there was so
much I didn't know about his experience as an Argyle, during and after the
war. Listening to Mabel Flannery tell her stories of her early years, I
realize there is so much about our families that everyone should know.
The vast majority of these stories were comical to say the least, but more
importantly they are stories of how our military families made do, the
sacrifices, the hard times and the good times.
Most important, these are great stories, that Canadians by and large are
interested in hearing about.
Here is the ask.
I have decided to start a page, on our website, dedicated to anecdotal
stories from service personnel, past and present, and their families. We are
inviting all branches to participate.
The intent is to share a little insight into the lives of the people who
serve and have served - and those that we have dragged along the way - or
vice versa.
Any contributions, including pictures, would be greatly appreciated. Of
course there will be a disclaimer about embarrassing toga parties in
Germany, pilots buzzing their mothers' garden parties, sailors attending
rose festivals, or kids jumping military flights to who knows where.
The length of the anecdote is up to the author. If any editing is required,
the story would be returned to the author for final approval before going
live on the website.
Tell me your stories and we will tell the world your lies.
Let me know what you think.
