Hello all,
The other day, I received a request from Cyril W. Gray, in Mississauga, ON
[cwmgray(a)rogers.com], for a source of electronic versions of our Regimental
Marches. I replied, giving out the address for our Association web site, and
asked what prompted his interest in RCD things. This is his reply:
-----------------------------
Norman,
a friend of mine, also a long retired officer, was interested in collecting
the marches of varied Canadian Regiments of note and thus the reason for my
interest in searching out the marches.
In my own retirement, I took up a hobby/task of developing a web site for my
old Regiment, The Halifax Rifles, RCAC (23rd Armd Regt)
http://www.geocities.com/rifles23/
In earlier days, 1954 I attended the RCAC School (CFB BORDEN) under Comm
Cont COTC, and more than a few RCD NCO's and Officer's were instructors.
Over those early years many enlisted in the regular force from The Hal
Rifles, RCD's in particular, including a good number in assembling the 27th
Brigade."Y" Troop I believe, later all assimilated into the RCD's. I saw
the
name Barwise in your web page development, and remember one of my
instructors was a Sgt Barwise. Maybe even connected.
One who I remember very well was Ron Allen, and his father Stuart too, both
of whom were in the Rifles. Ron went on to the RCD's and was later killed on
UN duty patrol at the Gaza Strip. He is mentioned in our honour roll at the
web site, and the RCD memorial cairn at Petewawa and building memorial is
also featured.
Although The Halifax Rifles, was SOS to Supplemtary Order of Battle in 1965,
( a political thing which really still irks us) we have a active
association, that years have not diminished in enthusisiam, but time and age
is decimating the members.
Drop in at our web site sometime. Please pass it along, as well.
Meanwhile I thanks for your prompt reply and assistance.
Cheers,
Cyril G
