Dear Norm:
BACK TO THE FUTURE
He that looks after the tankers has for once smiled upon the Canadian
Cavalry in a benign manner and has fashioned a fortunate confluence of
events in a sympathetic and like backgrounded MOD and CDS, one could say, a
sense of euphoric pleasure that is experienced from an Armoured Corps'
breakfast after a cold night of sitting in a turret and watching "things"
has descended and the gods of fortune are smiling upon the black berets.
May it last a long time!!
As for the question of a big gun on a heavy platform with high first round
pop capability is of essence on any field of battle. The intimidative
capability of the metal monster alone is worth its weight in Morbats,
Orbats, Doormats and all that fancy military jargon that is being bandied
about to describe Corp retraining.
Measures and counter-measures are the name of the game on any battlefield
and as far as my experience has shown, the Canadian Armoured soldier is not
a Rambo and is just as careful and snaky about what he is professional about
as he ever was. Prior training and cadre of trained Officers and NCOs will
ensure that this centre of crafty capability is kept at a high level of
effectiveness.
Tanks in the Afghan, most certainly so. Any piece of material that can help
our young men carry out the tasks that we, the people, have assigned them is
of the utmost priority. The rest will follow!
What is evident is the co-op that exist with the MOD & CDS. Nothing like
old boys that are favourable to your position at the top of the flow chart
to make things happen. I say AMEN to that.
