The Colonel of The Regiment is pleased to advise all members of the
Royal Canadian Dragoon family that Lieutenant-Colonel Lowell Thomas has
been selected as the officer designated to replace Lieutenant-Colonel
Dean Milner this summer.
Lowell joined the Canadian Armed Forces on 12 December 1980. He joined
the Regiment in Lahr on completion of training.In 1985, then Captain
Thomas returned to the Armour School. Back at the regiment, from
Petawawa in 1988, he deployed to Cyprus on Operation SNOWGOOSE as the
Sector Senior Duty Officer. Promoted Major in 1994, Lowell was posted to
NDHQ on the Director of Land Force Development staff. In 1995, he
assumed command of A Squadron in Petawawa. He was appointed Commanding
Officer of the Brigade Reconnaissance Squadron that deployed to Bosnia
with IFOR in January 1996.In 1999, after Staff College, he was posted to
3d Infantry Division
(Mechanized) (US Army) in Fort Stewart, Georgia as the G3 Exercise. He
served on the Division staff during deployments to Kuwait and Egypt.On
promotion to his present rank in July 2001, he assumed the duties as a
member of the Directing Staff at the Canadian Land Forces Command and
Staff College where he now serves.
Dean is scheduled to go on a French course from Ottawa following command
and to complete studies for his Masters program.From thence..."great
expectations"!
The Change of Command activities are scheduled for 1000 hrs on the 26th
of June where we will have the chance to thank Dean and Katrin for their
outstanding service to their regiment and country and to welcome Lowell,
Verene and the family back to the regiment.
