THE RCD ASSOCIATION, REUNION 2005
Re: Kingston Chapter tasked June 14, 2003 to host Reunion 2005.
Sitrep # 1
November 7, 2003
DRAGOONS
On this, the 103rd anniversary of the Battle of Leliefontein, as we come
together to honour our fallen comrades, let us also start to make plans to
attend REUNION 2005 where we will have the opportunity to visit with those
that are still here.
The Reunion 2005 Committee is pleased to report that we have secured a
location to hold our reunion June 17-19, 2005. An extensive survey and
evaluation was conducted of all the hotels in the city of Kingston to
determine the best value for our members. As a result the committee has
chosen The Ambassador Hotel and Convention Centre to host our 2005 reunion.
The Ambassador is a step up from the Days Inn Hotel where we held Reunion
2001. The guest rooms are larger and better appointed. It has many more
features such as an indoor pool with a two story 100-foot slide, squash
courts, racket ball courts, exercise room, restaurant and a separate lounge
on-site. Most importantly it has a very a large ballroom that can easily
accommodate up to 600 so we have lots of room to grow. We will not have to
have the dinner tables rearranged after dinner so that we can use the dance
floor, as we had to do in the Days Inn for Reunion 2001.
Now, that we have a larger facility to host our Reunions we are taking
steps to increase attendance. Our goal is to see between 270 and 300
members and guests attend R-2005. We have over 700 members in the
Association and with their spouses we number around 1400. We should
certainly be able to field 270 to 300 for Reunion 2005.
The other difficulty that we would like to overcome is getting members to
register early. By EARLY we mean prior to April 1, 2005, which is not very
early at all. If everyone were to register prior to April 1, 2005, then
the Reunion Committee has the time to plan and apply any extra revenue to
enhance the reunion. This should not be a problem to anyone, as we will be
accepting post-dated cheques and have a very generous cancellation policy.
In an effort to achieve our goal we will be providing $500.00 worth of
incentives to:
a) encourage more members to attend, and
b) have members register PRIOR to APRIL 1, 2005
ALL MEMBERS WHO REGISTER PRIOR TO APRIL 1, 2005 WILL BE ENTERED INTO A DRAW
TO WIN ONE OF 5 PRIZES WORTH APPROXIMATELY $100.00 EACH See the
Information Sheet for details.
DOWNLOAD YOUR COPY OF THE REGISTRATION FORM AND INFORMATION SHEET FROM THE
RCD ASSOCIATION WEB SITE AT:
http://members.rogers.com/rcd-association/index.html
Our Web Master, Norm Ashton, has added a couple of Reunion 2005 web pages
to the Association web site to provide the following information:
a) a list of members who have registered (SALY, same as last year),
b) he has also added a new feature where you can download your own copy
of the registration form and information sheet in either "WORD" or "
ADOBE"
c) Direction and info on the Ambassador Hotel including a direct web
link to the hotel web site
d) Other Reunion Info will be posted on the site as it becomes
available.
As you know, we do not allow any attachments on our "ALL-STATIONS CALL" so
I could not attach the Registration Form to this e-mail. Please go to the
Assn web site to download your registration form and view the other new
features. Let us make use of this great communication tool, while you are
there sign the Guest Book. If you have a problem downloading or you prefer
you can contact me and I will send you a Registration Form as a Word
Document attachment.
Registration Forms will also be available as an insert in the RCD
Association Newsletter, Spring 2004 Edition.
On the Information Sheet you will note that we have added a separate event
for the Ladies while members are attending the General Meeting Saturday
morning. Presently we do not have a firm plan for this event. If you have
any suggestions we would be pleased to hear about them.
For those of you who like to be among the first to register (Norm Wood, Red
Hayes etc.) let me tell you that yes, the Ambassador Hotel is prepared to
accept your registration now and of course I will gladly accept your
cheque.
Please pass this info on to other members who do not have access to the
internet.
