Well said and I think you made a great decision. I don't think I would have
thought of this.
Thanks for the insight.

Subject: [DragNet] Letter to all Dragoons
Ladies and Gents
First off I wanted to say Hello to all dragoons! Some of you know me as
Badger, some as the X RSM RCD, some don't even know me at all, and some
just as Denis Levesque, either way it's great to be a Dragoon. If you do
know me, then you know I speak out of two reasons, one of experiences, and
one from the heart. Well I have been pondering on how to put this across,
however now I need to say the things I want to say. Most if not all know I
recently lost my father. The questions that I had to answer, in such a
horrible time in my life, were not mind to answer, and I found my Mother
in a teary confused state for few days, the decisions still had to be
made, and my mother left them to me and my sister Lynda to sort out. My
fear was (did we do right or were we reflecting the wishes of Mom and
Dad). Where am I going with this
e-mail. I will focus now.
The best decision I had made for our family was when asked to what charity
did my Mother want to give donations to, that were received at the funeral
home. My mother was given 6 to choose from. My thoughts were, those
charities are all given money regularly by Military sourced contributors
or have huge drives monthly and the money would go into a pit of money
used for wages more that for the Charity. This money was to be given in
honor of Dad and it was personal. I told my Mother that all contributions
should be given to the RCR Soldier's Fund. The RCR were amazed at this
offer, and didn't know where to put it as this was a first. Where am I
going with this, I was so hit by the loss of Dad that my thinking was
blurred, so blurred that I did the right thing for the RCR Guild back in
June. Not that I'm asking for donations for the RCR Guild. What I am doing
is letting you know my thoughts of when my Father passed on, his
Regimental Family is where those personal donations on h!
is behalf were sent.
This is a personal decision not a requirement but very appreciated. Dad
was proud of his unit, and the unit was proud of his accomplishments. When
he passed he left no word on what he wanted, but when we had the add
placed in the paper donations came in from everywhere from Yellow Knife to
Florida. This money had to go some where and they were donations given in
his memory. The right place had to be chosen. The Funeral Director smiled
and agreed that Dad would have been proud. I don't know how much was
collected and I don't care.
The other interesting statement was where are Dad's Metals going. Well the
first thought was Tom Skeldings work. Tom has been telling the Regt of
many great soldiers medals are on E-Bay for a cost of X Dollars we could
own them. Tom was doing great work to preserve the Regiment's History to
collect these Regimental Hero's lost medals and memento's, he still does
this fine work on his own time, but the last thing I want is my Father's
medals on E-Bay by some civilian that didn't even know my father, looking
for money, and asking the Regt to purchase them 50 years from now. So my
mother is in the process of donating my father's medals and memento's to
the Regt. This will mean that if a Museum wants them they will ask the
Regt, and when they no longer want them they will be returned to the Regt.
This also means that they will never be on E-Bay or any other system in
the future. They will be held by his Regt in confidence.
Ladies and Gents, I'm not speaking on behalf of the Regiment. I'm not
speaking on behalf of the Guild. I'm speaking on behalf of Denis &
Margaret Levesque Son and Mother of CWO (Retired) Aurele (Jimmy) Levesque
Deceased. You will have to make the same decisions I had to make. I'm just
letting you know there are alternatives. I hope if there is someone that
reads this and takes offence to this E-Mail for any reason. You should
know this is a personal view not intended to force anyone to follow my
lead. It's just food for thought.
Thanks for reading my e-mail to the end and once again I say, It's always
a great day to be a Dragoon!
This e-mail should be forwarded to any one you wish to forward it to, with
a positive note. If not appreciated Please delete it.
