Thank you for the update.
Kathryn and I are trying to make the Ottawa dates, but we will certainly
attend Borden and Toronto.
Kathryn and I would be honoured to assist with and/or attend the Quebec City
and St. Jean re-dedication ceremonies as I conducted the 100th ceremonies
with our contingent from C-Sqn.
Please advise and I will book my holidays now.
Cheers!
John W. Richmond

Subject: [DragNet] RCD 125th ANNIVERSARY UPDATE
Greetings,
The planning for the celebrations of the Regiment's 125th Anniversary is
continuing but the following is a summary of all of the events happening
during the anniversary year. Not all details have been finalized but will be
promulgated as soon as they are known. Some of the following information is
available on the back page of the Springbok or on the Regimental website,
and the website can be checked regularly for updates.
10-12 April. Exercise IRONSIDES will take place in CFB Kingston. This is a
corps event for a maximum of 24 teams. Detailed information is available in
the Springbok.
15 April. The Regiment will celebrate Leeuwarden day with a regimental
parade, in Petawawa. Details to follow.
5-7 June. The major celebrations will take place in National Capital area
centered around the RCD/RCR Parade on Parliament Hill and the Gala Ball at
the Museum of Civilization. Details are as follows:
5 June. Ex CO/RSM Mess Dinner at the Army Officers Mess in Ottawa. For those
attending the cost is expected to be in the $60 range. Dress is Mess
Kit/Black Tie.
7 June. Joint RCD/RCR Anniversary Parade on Parliament Hill followed by a
reception at the Cartier Square Drill Hall. All are invited and there will
be no cost to these events.
7 June. The Gala Ball will take place at the Museum of Civilization in
Gatineau, Quebec. Dress is formal (Mess Kit/Black Tie) and the cost is
expected in the $50-60 per person range. Registration details will be out
soon but you can RSVP through Muggsie now at (613) 687-5511-5635. Discounted
room rates have been arranged at the Four Points/Sheraton Hotel in Gatineau,
Quebec. Individual reservations can be made at (800) 567-9607.
Garrison Visits. The Regiment will visit many of its former garrisons to
rededicate plaques laid at those sites during the 100th Birthday. The plan
is for the Colonel of the Regiment, the CO, the RSM, and a Regimental Guard
in scarlets to parade at the locations shown below. Association
participation in the parade and reception is welcome. Timings and detailed
locations will be confirmed and receptions will follow each event.:
3 July at the Citadelle in Quebec City as part of the Quebec 400th
Anniversary celebrations. The formal parade will be followed by the
rededication ceremony and a reception.
4 July at the former garrison site at CMR site in St Jean, Quebec. A
reception will follow the ceremony.
15 August at the Worthington Park in CFB Borden with a parade and
rededication ceremony followed by a reception.
16 August in Toronto with Regimental Guard participation in the Warriors Day
Parade at the CNE followed by a rededication ceremony and reception at
Stanley Barracks.
August. A ceremony at CFB Gagetown is planned for August but dates and
timings are not yet known.
6-8 November. Leleifontein Celebrations at CFB Petawawa.
21 December. RED Regimental Birthday.
More details will be sent out by a variety of means as soon as they are
known. There are, as can be seen, lots of opportunity to help celebrate the
Regiment's 125th birthday so plan to attend when and where you can.
More to follow,
Bann
