It is announced that Colonel Peter W. Hunter has been appointed the 12th
colonel commandant of the Royal Canadian Armoured Corps. He will be
formally inducted at the 83rd RCAC Conference in CFB Valcartier later this
month.
Col. Hunter is a Torontonian who completed his secondary education at the
University of Toronto Schools and graduated from the Royal Military College
of Canada in 1950. He soon joined the Governor Generals Horse Guards, and
with the exception of a two-year posting to 1st Hussars -- coincident with a
business transfer to London -- has since served his regiment continuously.
Col. Hunter commanded the GGHG in 1965-67 and during the next 23 years was a
member and later chairman of the regimental trust; he was honorary
lieutenant-colonel 1992-2001 and honorary colonel 2002-04. Col. Hunter was
a founder of Reserves 2000, an organization of individuals concerned about
the future of the militia, that hoped to influence land force reserve
restructure. He has been co-chair since 1994.
Col. Hunter made his civilian career in the commercial advertising industry,
heading several prominent firms. Latterly he has been vice-president and
director of corporate affairs for Citibank Canada, president of the
Zoological Society of Metropolitan Toronto and chairman of the Province of
Ontario advertising review board. He has been active also in the broader
community and has served as board member and/or chairman of an extensive
variety of public service and fraternal organisations.
