Just a few words from the List Administrator about the new mailing list.
First of all, we have sent out over 240 welcome messages, hopefully not many
duplicates. The recipients are either members of the Association, Old
Comrades who are not members (but should be), serving Dragoons, members of
the Guild Board of Directors, and some former tankers who may have worn
other hat badges. In short, it is more than the Association Mailing List. We
think it better reflects the shape and structure of the complete Regimental
Family.
Obviously, the list in not restrictive. Its only requirement is that all
communications reflect the interests of the Regimental Family. The list may
be operated by the Association but it is for the Regimental Family.
The list is not moderated - it operates on the basis of the self-discipline
exercised by the individual subscribers who send messages to it.
Up to this time, our previous versions of the Association mailing list, on
occasions, have tended to exclusively concentrate on obituaries. While this
function is a necessary one, to keep the Regimental Family informed, it
cannot be the only thing that we want to talk about. I have seen messages
off-list that talk about tracing old soldiers and kit and equipment marked
with the names of Dragoons, fighting vehicles being restored, archives and
museum questions, Guild initiatives, etc., etc., etc. Such communications
should now go on the list so all subscribers can keep up to date.
We are looking forward to seeing more messages initiated by our Chapters, by
the Reunion planning teams, by the Regiment (in particular the Archives, the
Museum, the Vehicle Restoration Team, squadrons deployed out of country, the
Messes, etc.) and, of course, by individuals.
So this list is yours, please use it. To send a message to all just address
it to RCD-ASSOCIATION-L(a)rootsweb.com and sit back. If you want to send one
to me, my personal email address is nashton(a)rogers.com and the official, but
long one is: RCD-ASSOCIATION-admin(a)lists2.rootsweb.com
And please put the word out. If you know someone who knows what a springbok
is and has an email address, he or she probably should be on this list.
