On a quick search of our database I have found the following on MGen James
H. Elmsley CB, CMG, DSO:
D1999.267.01 is a letter dated 30 Mar 1928 listing MGen J.H. Elmsley on the
Committee of RCD officers in the process of obtaining WWI Battle Honours
for the 2nd Guidon.
D2000.242.04 is a two page document that references the above and adds some
changes to the list of Battle Honours desired.
D2000.283.01 is a document that lists J.H. Elmsley as being wounded in South
Africa.
D2000.283.02 is a document that lists J.H. Elmsley as being sick aboard the
Roslin Castle enroute to South Africa.
D2000.283.07 is a document that lists J.H. Elmsley as being an officer in
the 1st Battalion Canadian Mounted Rifles, (later rebadged to RCD) for
South Africa.
D2000.616.01 is a group photo taken in Toronto in 1903 which includes
Captain J.H. Elmsley.
D2000.644.01 is a book of Officer's Services from 21 Dec 1883 to 15 Nov 1912
and lists James H. Elmsley.
I have not retrieved any of the above items and examined them. If you would
like more detailed information, we would have to examine these documents. A
problem with officers is that unlike the enlisted men they usually did not
have Service Numbers and searches through the (Public) National Archives web
site may be very time consuming.
I hope that this is of some help.

Sir:
I have currently come in to a pair of boots owned by Captain JH Elmsley
Royal Canadian Dragoons.
Is there any way I can find out more about this gentleman?
