This is the second attempt to send this out. If you receive two copies,
please accept my apologies.
Today, I received the following message from our President:
quote:
The Colonel of the Regiment has given me some information about a campaign
to acknowledge the D Day Dodgers as much as the D Day veterans. He has asked
for input from our Association on two matters: what should such a
celebration entail from an RCD Association point of view and whom we might
wish to nominate as an Association representative on any VAC committee.
Replies can be sent to me at cnsproule(a)king.igs.net and I will collate them
before staffing them through the directors as soon as possible.
Gen Addy writes that interest in commemorating the Italian campaign "has
been generated by those, particularly 1st Div (RCR, R22eR, RCD, LdSH, 12e
RBC and our own Colonel Comdt)and vets organizations who watch what is going
on in Normandy and have asked that the DDay dodgers also be recognized.
Just came back this hour from a meeting with Charlie Belzile in Ottawa who
brought me up to speed as part of the Canadian Battlefields Foundation
activities that a committee is being formed at and around VAC to do
something in October.
More will follow soon and I will apply pressure while I am in Normandy on
the MVAC and his DM for DDay celebrations, but, it would be a very good
thing to get the feeling of the Association on what should occur from a
regimental perspective. I would ask the Association Executive to consider a
committee and possibly a representative to sit on the VAC committee with me
if asked...and I will ensure that we are. ' Chris
