RCD ASSOCIATION REUNION 2005,
FINAL SITREP (#9) July 12, 2005
WELL, REUNION 2005 has come to a close. I trust that "you all" arrived
safely home. A big "Thank You" to all that sent "Congratulatory
Messages",
they are appreciated.
IN ADDITION TO MEETING "Old Friends" and the shared "Comradeship"
there
were some special times and events that will stick with us for a long time:
WHO KNEW THAT GENERAL JACK DANGERFIELD COULD SPEAK DUTCH?
He toasted the Queen of the Netherlands in Dutch & English.
WHO WILL EVER FORGET THE "PINNING" OF THE HOLLAND VETERANS?
Dr. Hans Westenberg, the Vice Consul of the Netherlands thanked the
Veterans for their contribution to the Liberation of Holland and presented
them with a 60th Anniversary Dutch / Canada Pin
HERE ARE THE NAMES OF THOSE "VETS" (All 80 years plus) who made the effort
to attend:
Arthur Burke, Carl Cowden, Ed Cheney - (served with the 1st Hussars),
Lewis Conway, Wilmar Fice, Ed Gray, Elmer Haney, Ed Johnson, Bill Laird
(served with RCEME)
Frank Milledge (served with the Sherbrooke Fussilier), Bob Weskett,
Don White & Clarence Wiskin,
Additionally there were two more who almost made it but had to cancel at
the last minute: John (Jack) Currie & David Robertson.
"THE LADIES CRUISE". What a wonderful job Terri Murdoch did on this event.
Not surprising, I have heard that the Boat Company did not make any money
from that trip. I guess 48 passengers on a 300-passenger ferryboat does not
equal a profit.
And, what about the FREE tour of the City by a generous bus driver? A
special "Thank You" to Mrs. Ki Morgan for donating $65.00 towards the
transportation cost for this tour.
WHAT ABOUT, "CLARK KENT" (AKA Bann Price) flying around Friday evening
taking pictures of anything that did or did not move. (Credit to Norm
Ashton for the "Clark Kent" thought)
TALKING ABOUT NORM ASHTON, thank you for keeping the Reunion Web Page up to
date with the Names and Sitreps that I sent you. It should be noted
that 93 of 150 Registration Forms that I received were downloaded from the
site or taken from the Newsletter. Thanks Norm!
WE HAD 10 GENERALS, don't know if that is a record but it sure was special
to have the current CDS, General Rick Hellier, in attendance.
AND WHAT ABOUT THE $100.00 DONATION from the General who was unable to
attend, Ned Amy?
That $100.00 prize was won by Chris Sproule and immediately presented to
Jean Bell as a donation to the Leliefontein Memorial Bursary.
THE PLAN TO ACQUIRE DUTCH TABLE FLAGS from the Dutch Embassy
fell through at the last minute. Not a problem! MWO Terry Chesterman
manufactured 22 flags and Barb & Dave Henderson assembled them in time for
the dinner.
THESE ARE JUST SOME OF THE THINGS that we did not and could not have
planned for that made REUNION 2005 extra special.

was worth it.

A BIG "Thank You" to all who attended Reunion 2005. It was a blast!
