As part of the History Televisions Week of Remembrance
http://www.history.ca/ontv/titledetails.aspx?titleid=251000 "Stroming Juno"
http://stormingjuno.com/ a 2 hour TV movie will be airing Thurs 11 Nov and
focuses on three ordinary heros on the longest day, one of them being P-1109 Sgt
Leo Gariepy of Montreal. Leo was a pre-war B Sqn Dragoon who along with a number
of other Dragoons from A&B Sqn helped form 1st Canadian Cavalry Regiment (Mech)
in May 1940. When 1 CCR(M) was renamed 1st Hussars (6th Armoured Regimement),
Leo and a number of other Dragoons (Charlie Smith, B.E. Shaw, Art Boyle to name
a few) who now desired to become "tankers" elected to stay with the 1H, the
remainder of the Dragoons being posted back to the RCD. The film was shot over 2
weeks mostly at Sauble Beach on Lake Huron's Bruce Peninsula and uses computer
genereation shots and scenes to round out the film. There are not very many
Canadian made films on our part on 6 June 44.
