Hi Viv,
I recently had some information from Gwyn Williams regarding the grave of my
great, great grandmother Mary Bound. I haven't yet visited Llanidloes to
find it. She is buried in Dol Hafren Cemetery where the first burial was
1880 and as far as I know this is the only graveyard that Mr. Williams holds
the records for. It is the main cemetery for the town.
I have the Memorial Inscriptions published by the
Montgomeryshire Genealogy
Society for the Llanidloes area and they are as follows:
Parish Church of Llanidloes
Bethel Cemetery
Deildre Calv. Methodist
Eastgate St. Wes. Meth.
Capel Bethel C.M.
Long Bridge St. W.M.
Oakley Park Presb.
Bethel St. Presb.
Church of our Lady and St. Richard Gwyn R..C.
Short Bridge St. Baptist
Van. Calv. Methodist
Welsh Presby.
Zion Presby.
Newchapel Baptist
I also have Cefn Burial Ground at Llangurig which is just over the border
from Llanidloes.
I am wondering where Simon was living at the time of his death as Bryntail
is a few miles out of Llanidloes. I think the Van Chapel, Deildre C.M. or
Capel Neuadd would be the nearest places of worship. I think that
sometimes people were buried and didn't have a headstone. I haven't been
able to find Simon Edwards in the booklets.
Regards,
Margaret Harvey

Hi I have been looking for my G Grandfather Simon Edwards and
Grandmother
Jane Edwards grave in Llanidloes they are buried in the same grave.
Simon was killed in Bryntail lead mines in Llanidloes17/7/1887 an Jane
died
at Treodrhiw Merthyr
24/12/1919
I was in contact with Mr Gwyn Williams of Llandidloes Burial Joint
Committee
he sent me the entry number 161 and plot number 341, when I have
been to
the cemetery in Llanidloes I could not find the grave, Carol and Toney
Evans
cemetery caretakers have been very helpful to me, the number that
Gwyn
Williams gave me is the wrong grave, and they have try to find out from
Gwyn
Williams where the grave is, but he don't seem to be able to tell
them
where
they are buried.
When I was in Llanidloes in June I ask in the museum if the could tell me
the sites for cemeteries in Llanidloes they told me the cemetery that I
was
looking in was not open till 1927. So this seem to be the wrong
cemtery.
so
where the cemetery that my G Grandparents are buried is a mystery,.
what I
can not understand is where Gwyn Williams have got the information from to
give me the numbers and the dates of they burials are correct, and I have
been told that he has only information on the cemetery that I have look
in.
I don't where to go from here so if any one has any ideas I would
be most
grateful.
Regards Viv
