Subject: [POWYS] Translation and detailed info on landholdings
Can anyone please enlighten me about the following points.
1. If there is no mention of property in a will can it be presumed that
there is no
land to leave because the deceased was a tenant?
2. Has anyone researched the landholdings in the Crickadarn - Brecon areas
in the
15-1600s and in the 18-1900s?
3. Is it likely that there will be records of landholdings in the 16 and
17th
centuries and if so what are the documents and where will they be
found?
4. What does Ddu mean when it appear after a place name?
5. What does Glan Wye mean when added to the name of a farm, Noyadd.
(Which is
close to the river Wye.) If a house is called Glanwy does that
have a different meaning?
I have just returned from the Crickadarn area where I visited a number of
farms and
other locations connected with my family history - Kinsey- and was
met with the greatest of welcome and courtesy by everyone. Very well worth
doing. They were certainly tough in those days!
Sincerely
