Hi All,
If Powys CC go on messing with place names like this then the future of FHS
stuff in Powys will be total confusion!! I was born here in 1932 and the old
names were in use then - the ones we knew in school, etc, like Plynlimon (
2468' asl ).
Bryntail Mine is very close to the Clywedog Dam and by the river. Also close
to The Glyn Farm, and the site of the old Glyn Factory and Peter's Factory,
both now gone. Next to Peter's Factory were the cottages where my father was
born in 1904, now restored as one large dwelling. All of these are in photo's
in the ER Morris book on Llanidloes.
The 1881 LDS census shows Edmund Cleaton at the Glyn Factory, he died there
that same year. The names of all those in the various local cottages for the
Mines and Factories are listed under "Neigbhours" on the CD.
Best wishes,
Dennis Cleaton, Rads, Powys
