Subject: [POWYS] Maddys in 1861
Hi Sue,
Thanks for the information re Mary Maddy. I know that her father was
Samuel
Maddy from the marriage entry dated 6th December 1884 at Llanfillo.
She
was
resident at Dullas Cottage, aged 25 at that date.
With regard to not finding the death registered that is quite possible
since
it was not made "Compulsory" to register, as I understand
it, until the
1870's. I would suggest that if your Maddy's were Anglicans then your
best
bet would be to find the burial in Parish registers. Have you looked
at
the
Llanfilo register?

Tricia

Hi Tricia,
I will have a look through my papers and see if I can find a Mary who was
Samuel's daughter in that timescale.
I have seen the Llanfilo registers and I know he was not buried there. I
think I will have to try the Llyswen ones as he had his son christened there
and seems to have spent the best part of his days there. What I don't
understand is that I have found his wife's death certificate in 1843 in the
Hay Registry, part of Talgarth and I thought if he had had her registered
then his death would also be registered. Oh well off I go again on another
pathway.
Thank you anyway.
