Hello -
I am traveling to Knighton from the USA in June to do some genealogical research on my
great-grandparents: Edward Breeze Davies (born 1846 in Wormbridge) and Mary Lewis Brown
(born 1847 in Knighton). They came to the USA in 1870-1871.
I am having difficulty contacting a couple of places in Knighton, Wales, that I want to
visit. I am hoping that someone has information about these places and/or can find their
email addresses for me.
One is the rector or archivist at St. Edwards Church in Knighton. Many of my ancestors
were christened and are buried at this church.
I would also like to contact the Price family who own Llanshay Farm in Knighton (P R Price
& Son). My great-grandmother Mary lived at Llanshay Farm, first with her parents
(Hugh and Mary Lewis), and then with her first husband (John Brown), so I would like to
see this place and get inside the house if possible.
My great-grandfather Edward lived at Whitehall on Bridge Street in Knighton. This house
is located next to the Harry Tuffins gas station. In 1871 & 1881, this house belonged
to Edward’s father, Edward Lutwyche Davies (born 1803 in Hay), who was a Rector. The
current owner of Whitehall now seems to rent out rooms, one to a hairdresser. If anyone
can find out how to contact via email this owner so that I learn more about the building
and perhaps gain access, please let me know.
If anyone can help me with any of these sites, I would greatly appreciate it. Also if
anyone knows anything about my Lewis or Davies ancestors, I would love to have that
information.
Thank you very much.
Margaret
