I think someone last month was looking for Cadwallader (which is the way they
seem to spell it now) and it IS a big Quaker name in Pennsylvania at the
present. THere is a very thorough Quaker genealogy book which would certainly
have Cadwalladers in it and the other Quakers in Pennsylvania. William Penn who
founded Pennsylvania was a Quaker and according to a pamphlet a friend of mine
just picked up in Wales (sorry I'll mangle the name..Do...on the
coast..Quaker center)..William Penn promised Welsh Quakers a place to worship and keep the
Welsh language, but when they arrived they were forced to speak English..many
chose to return to Wales). I had never heard this part before, but it is
certain that many Welsh settled in Pennsylvania (my own ancestors included) .. my
husband was raised in Gwynedd Monthly Meeting of Friends not far from
Philadelphia..our son went to Haverford College which is aligned with the women's
college Bryn Mawr..There are many, many Welsh names in that area just west of
Philadelphia.
