Kathy,
You might look into the Welsh pedigrees reflected in the WILLPERF
database through worldconnect. Go to
www.rootsweb.com. Left column
click on worldconnect. A page will allow you to type in the name of the
database:
WILLPERF (it could be WILPERF).
This database has a lot of Vaughans in it. A large part of it is from
Griffith's "Pedigrees of Anglesey and Caer. families..." Some Vaughans
are from the line of Collwyn Ap Tangno.

Subject: Re: [POWYS]re-Vaughans again
I am not clear about how to get more information. It seems that in the
records two Vaughan families were put together..too many William
Vaughans! so that
in the Bishops Transcripts which my father copied and which I notice have
also been recorded in other people's genealogies that our William , his
twin
brothers Thomas and Christopher christened in April 1808 are put together
with
other Vaughans born in Merthyr Tydfil which include Theophilus, Ann and
two James
(one having died in infancy)..When I was in Cardiff I got copies of the
recorded christenings of William chr. June 1799 and Thomas and
Christopher born to
William and Anne Jones Vaughan in Merthyr Tydfil. Was anything recorded
elsewhere than in this list of christenings for the church in Merthyr? I
guess I
'm wondering if there was some official original baptismal record that
might
be kept somewhere else than in the office in Cardiff? Would there be
more
information on it?
I'm very ignorant of how to proceed on trying to decipher the records and
separate out the two Vaughan families that have gotten mixed. I know the
father
William died in a mining accident in 1823..He worked at Crawshays. Would
there be a list of mine workers? Would there be a record of where people
who
worked in the mines lived? Also, Thomas Vaughan was banished along with
Lewis
Lewis and two others to Australia for their part in the Merthyr Uprising
while Dic
Penderyn was hung...Would there be any kind of personal records on people
arrested during the Uprising in 1831?
Thank you for any help!
Kathy
P.S. We do have a record of William Vaughan marrying Elizabeth Lovett in
1823 in Llanbedr Painscastle. It says that he is of the Parish. DId
that mean
that he was born there? or that his family was from there?
