Hello all,
The joint co-ordinators of the project to place the details of the index books maintained
by local registrars on to the North Wales BMD website have advised me that they have added
the following during the last few days.
Welshpool Registration District
Births - Llanfair Caereinion sub-district
(Parishes of Llanfair, Llangyniew, Llanerfyl, Llangadfan, Llanfihangel and Garthbeibio)
1837 - 1950
(14,167 entries)
Births - Llanrhaeadr ym Mochnant sub-district
(Parishes of Hirnant, Llanwddyn, Pennant, Llangynog, Llanrhaiadr plus the Denbighshire
parishes of Llanarmon Mynydd Mawr, Llangadwaladr and Llangedwyn.)
1866 - 1950
(7,980 entries)
Machynlleth Register Office:
Births - Machynlleth sub-district
Parishes of Machynlleth, Penegoes and the township of Sgubor-y-coed in county Cardigan,
plus Darowen sub-district [Parishes of Llanbrynmair, Cemmaes and Darowen] from 1917.
1908 - 1950
(3,422 entries)
With these latest additions, all the births indexes from 1837 to 1950,
for the Register Offices at Welshpool and Machynlleth, are now
searchable via the North Wales BMD website.
Please note that we believe these locally created indexes are more reliable and probably
more useful than the national 'GRO' indexes. Although they are not as prceise in
date terms as they give the 'year' rather than the 'quarter' they are
based on a more restricted geographical area - sub-districts, rather than a whole
district.
Many thanks to the volunteers from Montgomeryshire
Genealogical Society who have assisted me in the photocopying, transcribing and checking
of these indexes. Also to the Registrars who have given me considerable help.
Work is now progressing on the deaths and marriages at Welshpool and Machynlleth. There
are volunteers currently typing the Newtown index books - many still to be done and will
take a few weks yet!
The above index books can now be searched at:
