Rhian,
Thank you for your comprehensive reply. Would have responded sooner but was
away for 3 days.
>I've found my copy of the book Pigsties and Paradise mentioned
below. It
has the following chapters:
Good, the book seems to cover a lot of travels.
>At the end there is a list of sources, a gazeteer of place names
and inns
(but unfortunately no page references) and there is no index.
Oh dear, no index.
>Listed in the gazetteer (of those places you ask about) are:
>Bala
Promising news.
>Also in Merioneth Barmouth, Dolgellau, Cynfal Falls, Harlech,
Llanegryn,
Llwyngwril, Tanybwlch I can't see listed the places you note
Pleased that there is Dolgellau.
>in Montgomeryshire but the following are listed Llanrhaeadr (just
over the
border), Llanidloes, Machynlleth, Montgomery, Welshpool.
Llanrhaeadr is adjacent to Llangynog, Hirnant, so that is good.
>There is a map at the beginning of each chapter so that you have
an idea
where each traveller visited
This is certainly a plus. Many editors assume the reader is knowledgeable
about every village in Wales.
Thanks again.

Peter Evans
