Sorry about my 'deliberate' mistake in the address of Coflein's website.
The correct URL is

Cheers,

Subject: [POWYS] Chapels Database
Dear Listers,
Those of you whose ancestors were chapel people may not be aware of the
database of the Royal Commission of Ancient and Historical Monuments of
Wales (RCAHMW). About half of the 6000 plus entries in the database have
been updated quite recently and the current state of the entire database is
available in thirteen PDF documents (one for each Welsh county) downloadable
from the following page on the RCAHMW website:
http://www.rcahmw.gov.uk/HI/ENG/Heritage+of+Wales/Chapels/
If you are wondering which chapels were near your ancestor's home, you
should find the RCAHMW database a useful source.
The entire RCAHMW collection, including the chapels database, can be
searched online at:
http://www.coflein.org.gov
Coflein is the online database for the National Monuments Record of Wales
(NMRW), the national collection of information about the historic
environment of Wales. Coflein allows access to details of many thousands of
archaeological sites, monuments, buildings and maritime sites in Wales,
together with an index to the drawings, manuscripts and photographs held in
the NMRW archive collections.
Personally, I find Coflein's search engine rather clunky despite having
recently been 'improved'. The key to finding the full entry for a specific
chapel is to identify its "NPRN" (National Primary Record Number). Entering
the NPRN into the search engine should give quick access to details of the
chapel you are seeking. Luckily, the PDF documents mentioned in my first
paragraph include the NPRN for each entry.
Kind regards,
John
