My gr-gr grandparents were married in Carmel Chapel in 1840 before coming to
the US. Their marriage certificate reads: Carmel Chapel in the District of
Crickhowell, County of Brecon. Their residences were in Beufort in the
Parish of Llangnnider, County of Brecon.
Does anyone know if the chapel still exists and, if so, where in Crickhowell
is it located? I have been unsuccessful locating any information on this
chapel on the internet. I have found one or 2 Carmel Chapels, but in
surrounding counties. Unless county lines were redrawn, I don't think any
of these are my Carmel Chapel.

Dear Karen,
I believe the chapel you are seeking is the famous Carmel Independent
Chapel, Rassau Road, Beaufort, originally built in 1820 and rebuilt in
1864/66 to a design by the noted 19th century chapel architect Thomas Thomas
of Landore.
The chapel still exists and is surrounded by an extensive and neatly-kept
burial yard. However, it is no longer used as a place of worship. It was
advertised for sale in March 2011 - see the article on the Wales Online
website:

You can locate the chapel on Google Maps satellite image
(

chapel on Google's StreetView.
Carmel Chapel is included (under Beaufort) in my online 'Welsh Churches and
Chapels Collection':
