You can assist them with collecting historic names too.

Dear Listers,
Many thanks to Alison for drawing our attention to this really worthwhile
new project to create a comprehensive gazetteer of placenames in Wales. If
it proves successful, it will be an excellent resource for anyone interested
in local and family history in Wales.
I signed on as a volunteer yesterday and spent an enjoyable hour yesterday
on my first transcribing session. As I transcribed each placename, a pink
tear-drop-shaped tag appeared at the appropriate point on the map. However,
these seem to be visible only to me a present: I presume a validation
process must take place before each transcription is accepted.
With each transcription I was offered the opportunity to add an alternative
name, a comment, or a memory, based on local knowledge.
There's a simple on-line tutorial that explains how and what to transcribe,
but the website leaves a lot of questions unanswered, particularly about how
and when each transcription is validated.
So far, 158 people have volunteered as transcribers, and over 24,000
locations have been tagged.
I would encourage as many of you as possible to register as volunteers. You
can spend as much or as little time as you wish on the transcribing.
Even if you don't want to transcribe, the 1900 large-scale interactive map
is a valuable resource in itself.
Kind regards,
John
