My great grandmother (Mary Price, formerly Watkins nee Evans) was
married twice at Bwlch-y-Sarnau Baptist Chapel:
(a) on 20th Sept 1862 "... according to the Rites and Ceremonies of
the Dissenters" by Stephen Pugh.
(b) on 12 Sept 1873 "... according to the Rites and Ceremonies of the
Independents" by David Davies, Minister.
many thanks
Claire

I have a marriage certificate for a wedding which took place at
'Bwlchsarney Chapel' on 16 July 1880. I have found details of the
Bwlch-y-sarnau Baptist Chapel (including on John's website - thank
you!), but this certificate says that the marriage took place
'according to the Rites and Ceremonies of the Independents'. Does
anyone know whether there was also an Independent/Congregational
chapel at Bwlch-y-sarnau, or whether this can refer to the Baptist
chapel? (Some later members of the family were indeed Baptists.) The
minister's name is given as David Davies.
Many thanks, Shirley

Hi Shirley,
The Rev David Davies was the Baptist minister of Bwlch-y-Sarnau
chapel in
1880, so it seems likely that that is where the marriage took place.
According to Margaret Ivy Sims Jones' book 'The Forgotten Composer
Edward
Meredith Price...' Rev David Davies became co-pastor of Bwlch-y-
Sarnau
chapel in 1859 due to the ill health of the founding minister, the Rev
Stephen Pugh, and served there until he resigned in 1886. Rev
Stephen Pugh
died in 1872, so it would seem that David Davies was the sole
minister at
Bwlch-y-Sarnau chapel in 1880. He also covered Nantgwyn and Beulah
chapels.
