Dear Listers,
Those of you who are transcribing place-names on the
www.cymru1900wales.org
mapping website may be interested in the response I received this morning to
three questions and a comment that I submitted via their contact address on
Friday evening:
------------------
QUESTION 1. I've transcribed over 380 places so far, but they only appear as
pink tags on the map after I've logged on and selected 'Transcribe'. When
will they appear on the general map?
ANSWER: The markers should appear as grey markers on the general map, so
that other users can see that these are locations that have been previously
transcribed, but require additional transcriptions before they turn green,
to indicate that that marker has been completed. Unfortunately, there have
been some problems with getting markers to display correctly to other users,
but I am producing a report today that will highlight these and other
problems to the website developers.
QUESTION 2. How can I amend a transcription error - my own or someone
else's?
ANSWER: At the moment it is not possible to amend a transcription once
"Done" has been clicked. However, this is the single most requested
improvement, and we will be looking in to whether it is possible to add this
functionality.
QUESTION 3. Am I supposed to transcribe B.M. (Bench marks)?
ANSWER: No. All other abbreviations (M.S., W., P. etc) please do transcribe.
COMMENT: It would be helpful to include some FAQs on the website, and an
explanation of how and when entries are processed and validated for
accuracy.
RESPONSE: I will be producing a FAQ sheet for the website later today, and
this will be added to the site in the coming days.
--------------
It appears from the above responses (from Tom Pert
<
www.cymru1900wales@gmail.com>) that they are having teething troubles with
the website at present. Let's hope they are resolved quickly.
Kind regards,
John
