Martin,
I have to say I don't recall anyone researching the surname TELFORD who has shown up
on this list in the past 7-8 years. I encourage you to search the Powys list archives,
though, to be sure:
http://archiver.rootsweb.com/th/index/POWYS/
A look at the 1851 Census for Montgomeryshire (CD pub. by Powys FHS) yields no persons at
all with the surname TELFORD so, if they spent time in Welshpool or Berriew or the area,
any descendants were gone by 1851.
The IGI was also no help -- the only result in Wales for any event concerning a John
TELFORD (all counties) was a marriage of one John TELFORD to Ann LLOYD in Ruabon,
Denbighshire, 19 Jan. 1801, (submitted by an LDS patron, no sources cited). It would be
worthwhile following up on the Clwyd and WLS-Denbighshire lists.
Likewise, using the LDS Family Search site, "All Resources", for any evidence of
a christening anywhere in Wales ca. 1806 yielded no results. It seems to be a surname
with high concentrations (and variations in spelling) in the northern counties of England
and in Scotland, if the IGI is anything to go by.
You might want to contact Powys County Archives and ask if they would look for a
christening in the Welshpool and Berriew PR's or BT's.
Good luck!
Regards,
Julie Preston
