Hi Glenys and John,
I was so optimistic when you each sent me the 1849 Crickhowell reference
for a marriage Elizabeth Powell and John Davies. The certificate came
today
from the GRO, and, alas, it is not the correct couple. It shows her
father's name
as John Powell. I am very certain that her father's name was William.
And the
couple on the certificate resided at Beaufort, not Llanelly.
Glenys, do you know how I can find the marriage reference for the couple
you found at Bath Row, Clydach? (See below.)
I'll put the full details of the certificate in a separate e-mail to
the list, in case
it might be the right people for somebody else.
Thanks for your earlier help, and for any additional suggestions now!

Dear Norma
I see I was pipped at the post however ---
There were two John DAVIESes in 1851 born Llanelly and aged 20-24; one
of them
was unmarried and at home still but the other was married and looks
possible:-
Bath Row, Clydach : DAVIES John, h, m, 23, iron puddler, BRE Llanelly;
DAVIES Elizabeth, w, m, 24, , BRE
Llanelly,
The other family lived at Twyn-Pengrwll, Gilwern (in case the name
ringsa bell).
Llanelly is in the Crickhowell Registration District. Three Elizabeth
POWELLs
were married there in the years 1847-51. One of them could have
married the John
Davies whose name is on the same page; the reference is:-
1849 Crickhowell SEP vol. 26 p. 405.
It is only by obtaining the certificate that you can be sure, unless
the Parish
Register is accessible.
