Does anyone have any idea where Nantyderw is in Trefeglwys? I tried
Old Maps, and my eyes are glazing over! Any pointers would be
appreciated.
My Williams family were living there in 1881:
Matthew WILLIAMS Head M Male 51 Llanwnog, Montgomery, Wales Lead Miner
Ann WILLIAMS Wife M Female 51 Trefeglwys, Montgomery, Wales
David WILLIAMS Son U Male 23 Trefeglwys, Montgomery, Wales Scholar (Student)
Annie WILLIAMS Daur Female 9 Trefeglwys, Montgomery, Wales Scholar
Edward WILLIAMS Grand Son Male 8 Trefeglwys, Montgomery, Wales Scholar
Source Information:
Dwelling Nantyderw
Census Place Tref-Eglwys, Montgomery, Wales
Family History Library Film 1342318
Public Records Office Reference RG11
Piece / Folio 5482 / 117

There appears to be 2 properties which make up Nantyderw, as there is
another Williams family living next door! I've no idea if they are
related to mine though:

The other next door was Nantyglynen (if that is any help).
Another question, I find it rather strange that David (my gg
grandfather) was a scholar in 1881 at the age of 23. What is there to
study in Trefeglwys at the age of 23? I know he later went to south
Wales (assume he worked in the mines) before coming back to Trefeglwys
for the 1901 census. In 1901 he was the landlord of the pub (not the
Red Lion, the other one, the name escapes me) plus he was a lead
miner. So I'm not sure what to make of the scholar in 1881. Any
ideas?
And of course, if anyone else sees a link to their family, please let
me know ...
Many thanks,
Alison
