Subject: Re: [POWYS] Forden Old School House
In 1851 there were two 'School Houses' listed for Forden, the second one,
sited between Rhydygroes Gate & Smith Cottage, is I suspect, the 'Old'
school, now turned into a private dwelling. Living there are John EVANS
aged 56 an ag. lab born Moughtre MGY; wife Elizabeth 51 born Chirbury
Shropshire and children Martha 12; Hannah 7; & John 5 all born in Forden.

Hello Tony,
Have the 1861 for Montgomeryshire but nearly all the relevant piece number,
is missing.
In 1895directory, the schoolmistress for Forden (included under
Montgomery), was Miss M. J. Davies, although it is not stated whether she
lived at the schoolhouse or not. Some earlier directories I have, do not
show the smaller places.
The 1881 census is interesting, in that John and Sarah Evans and family,
living there, and a National School Forden, of which the schoolhouse may
have been a part. Frederick Bransgrove head of school.
