A person inputting information in the [LDS] Family History Library ...
records listed it as a place of birth for one John Jones born in 1857.
I do not find it on a map search and suspect it is not spelled correctly.
Would "Crdgn" be an abbreviation for Cardiganshire?
===================
Dear Janice,
The address should be written: "Tynlofft, Betws Bledrws, CGN".
"Crdgn" is not a recognised abbreviation, but it is undoubtedly a reference
to Cardigan(shire) or Ceredigion, the Welsh name for Cardiganshire. The
correct 'Chapman' code for Cardiganshire is CGN
Betws Bledrws is a parish and village in the Hundred of Moyddyn - see
www.genuki.org.uk/big/wal/CGN/BetwsBledrws/
Tynlofft appears to be a collection of farm buildings, shown on my modern
Ordnance Survey 'Explorer' map at grid reference SN582514. You can see the
relevant section of the Explorer map at the Get-A-Map website
http://getamap.ordnancesurvey.co.uk/frames.htm
In the search section near the top left of the Get-A-Map webpage, enter
SN582514 into the search field and click the GO button. Use the zoom control
buttons to the middle left of the map to obtain a 2 km x 2 km section of the
1:25,000 scale 'Explorer' map centred on Tynlofft.
You can also call up a highly detailed (1:10,560-scale) late 19th century
map of this area by going to the Old Maps website at
http://www.old-maps.co.uk/
On the main page, select the "Co-ordinates" option in the search facility
(near top left of the page). In the search field enter the co-ordinates
258200,251400 (without any spaces) and click the Search button, and then
choose the 'Cardiganshire' option.
When the small map appears, click on the "Enlarged view" button below the
map. A highly detailed large map of the area will open in a new window,
centred on "Ty'n-y-lofft".
You can save the enlarged view map to your hard disc by clicking on the map
with your right mouse button and selecting the "Save Picture As..." option
in the menu which appears.
Kind regards,
John
