Neil et al,
First -- the booklet put out by St. Fagans, "The Llawryglyn Smithy", includes
this tidbit from Andrew Humphreys account book:
"Humphreys would appear to have sent out his bills annually, as most payments were
made in late spring and early summer.....Maurice Jones, Ty'n-yr-wtre, paid of 3
[pounds] of his 5 [pounds] 18s, 11 1/2 d. bill on 26 November 1865 and cleared the balance
the following month."
I actually meant that the Bennett "Pedigree" included some errors that most
people repeat when using it for reference unless they're directly descended from the
person to whom the wrong wife or husband was attributed -- that would be me! So, if
it's on the website, the material probably came from that document.
If Andrew Humphreys was born in 1857, his mother was already 47 -- a very late baby!
I have tried many times to unravel those HUMPHEYS -- Llawryglyn and Trefeglwys villages -
there were many couples!
I show the following extracts that fit Andrew Humphreys, Llawryglyn Blacksmith, b.1802 (48
in 1851 Census) and his parents:
Trefeglwys BT's
---------------------
Marriage 1 Oct. 1802
Evan Humphrey and Mary Proudley (both otp)
(typically, the baby born only a couple of months later)
Bapt. 19 Dec. 1802
Andrew, son of Evan Humphreys and wife Mary
(Possibly went to live in another parish for a little while as there are no children
entered for this couple until 1809/1812 so suspect there were more in the intervening
years -- also, Evan didn't always work only as a blacksmith, it seems, but that
wasn't uncommon -- he was also a miller when he was the blacksmith)
Bapt. 18 Dec. 1809
Sarah (? very faint), dau. of Evan Humphreys and wife Mary
[Not certain if the following 2 entries apply to the same couple -- there was also a 1799
marriage of another Evan Humphrey to Mary Low]
Bapt. 10 May 1812
Mary, dau. Evan Humphrey weaver & wife [not named]
Burial 24 May 1812
Mary, Infant of Evan Humphrey
[This definitely applies]
Bapt. 11 April 1813
Mary, dau. of Evan & Mary Humphreys, Llawryglyn, Blacksmith
(Interrupted here)
------------------------------------------
As for Evan Humphreys, father of Andrew, I haven't figured out his parents but made
notes of the following (all from Trefeglwys BT's) -- this is by no means complete as I
was only working in this time-frame and was interrupted.
Burial 23 Dec. 1790, Thomas Humphrey
Burial 4 Aug. 1795, Andrew Humphreys
Burial 10 Feb. 1799, Evan Humphrey
Burial 27 May 1802, Martha Humphreys
------------------------------------------
Just more food for thought for anyone interested in the Humphreys.

Hi Julie
yes I had also noted that there are some errors on the site but I havent had a chance to
write to Neil To get or give him more details.
I have it down that Margaret Jones married Andrew Humphreys 1857-1931 who was the son
of Andrew Humphreys Blacksmith Llawryglyn 1802-
cheers

Neil,
tynwtra website
http://www.tynyrwtra.co.uk/
It's strange to visit a new (to me) website and catch sight of so many of my own
ancestors and their relatives! ;-) I obtained the barest of details of many of my direct
ancestors from the "Pedigree" derived out of the Richard Bennett papers so I
assume many of the lines shown in the Archive pages of the website also came from that
source? There are a couple of errors in that pedigree, however.
Was the Andrew Humphreys who married Mary Jones the same Andrew Humphreys who had the
Llawryglyn Smithy in the mid-to-late 1800's? (The smithy is now at St. Fagans.)

HI
wtra means lane in welsh
Tynwtra in llawryglyn is connected to the Astons (of course) as the Astons
married into the Jones of tynwtra (Phyllis ashton 1906-1959 married Maurice
Jones). In addition the Astons are linked through the Evans' of Geseilfa
as Edward Lloyd Evans married Hannah Jones of tynwtra. details are on the
tynwtra website
