Hi Margaret,
Thanks for the look-up. I'm sure you are right that it is the same family in 1841.
From the children's places of births they certainly moved around a lot. This seems to
be the case with Radnorshire folk generally :-((
Unfortunately, there is no sign of a son, William who should be aged around 13 in 1851 and
3 in 1841. I am trying (desperately) to place him with his family (father, Richard) and
thought I had hit the jackpot this time. His place of birth is consistently given as
Llandegley from 1861 onwards and I had hoped this mobile family had lived there at some
time.
In 1861, this family and William were both enumerated in Trecoed. (William was boarding
at a separate address). In 1861 Trecoed is described as being in Breconshire rather than
Radnorshire as in 1851. Presumably the borders of these counties changed at this time.
By the way,
ancestry.com have uploaded the 1861 census of Wales for anyone who has not yet
noticed. Hours of fun ahead!
Many thanks again
Rina

Hi Rina,
I have included the 1841 entry, the ages are rounded down to 0 and 5 but even allowing for
this Mary's age does not agree but I feel sure it is the same family as they were
living in Abbey Cwm-hir and this was the place of birth of their son Richard. The
information is from the Radnorshire Census CDs issued by the Powys FHS.
I am also researching my Hamer ancestors but over the border in Montgomeryshire except for
Richard Hamer my 6 x great grandfather who was known as Richard of Llananno. He was born
about 1680.
Regards,
Margaret Harvey
