Dear Margaret, Dennis, Rich & Listers
Having looked again at the POWELL family of Llwyngwillim, I have realised
that all is NOT as I had thought. I had rather liked the fact that Sarah
(Rowlands) Powell lived at Llwyngwillim, where her mother Mary (Davies) Rowlands had
been brought up & her grandfather Richard DAVIES had settled c 1780. I
thought that the Davies family connection lasted over 100 years. WRONG!!!!!!!
Thomas POWELL married Sarah ROWLANDS 8 Nov 1844 in Cwmdauddwr. The 1841
census shows them both as servants of John Davies of Gwardole (Gwardolau).
(Before 1841 they already had two children - Sarah & Selina, & subsequently
had a 3rd dau, Mary, bapt 14 Feb 1845 & buried 9 months later). These children
appear surnamed Rowlands in 1841 & Powell in 1851.
But Sarah (ROWLANDS) Powell died in 1847 aged 32 and was buried 17 March 1847
- abode Gamallt, (or Garnallt??) St Harmon. She never did live at
Llwyngwillim!!!
Tom Powell married a Sarah HARRIS in Rhayader 9 March 1853 & this marriage
lasted till he died in 1891 - she died in 1895 & they are buried together in
Nantmel with an MI that I photographed some years ago - thinking that there was a
family connection!! Not so, it seems!! Tom P had me fooled with his TWO
Sarahs.
I am glad to have found out the correct version although some of the scenario
I had imagined has had to go!!!
Best regards, Ruth
