Thanks for your reply. The only information I have
about William at this stage is that his father is
Richard, a labourer. Fingers crossed that this
matches one of your finds.
From 1871 onwards, William describes himself as
being from Llandegley. I don't know how accurate
that is as he later changed his name to Hammonds.
His children however, readopted the surname Hamer
as adults.

There are two William Hamers aged 4 listed under Rhayader in the Rads 1841
Census CD by Powys FHS, both born in Rads:-
One listed at Stoney Park, NG/f 7/p7, Nantmel
One listed at Talare, HR/f 8/p10, St Harmon
Both places had large Hamer families, do you have any other
siblings/parents
names?
My Gt Granmother was a Mary Jane Hamer/Evans from Rhayader!!
