Hi Dennis!
Yes, there are Weales at Disserth. Some of them are the
Newbridge family and some are the Disserth & Gwenddwr family. "Old" Tom
Weale (1791-1863) who was the progenitor of all of those at Newbridge
(and builder of Penrhiw Cottage) is buried by the wall near the old
Disserth barn. He has set squares carved on his stone to signify his
standing as a master craftsman - I have a photo of him taken 1861 on the
occasion of his 70th birthday.
The various modern Weale families in the area are all related and mostly
descend from the 17th century brothers, George and Christopher "Weall"
of Llanelwedd and Llanyre - of course, rather typically for Mid
Waleians, they will all argue that they are all "no relation" to the
other etc etc. A fairly ridiculous argument given the incidence of the
name and the testamentary and genealogical evidence that clearly points
otherwise.
best wishes as always
Rich

Hi Tricia and Rich,
There are Weale graves at Disserth church, some with Newbridge-on-Wye
addresses, linked to the two Weale families there today??. NBG "church burials"
used to often be at Disserth many years ago when they had no Church.
A Happy New Year to you All.
Dennis, in Rads.
