Hi Martin, Alison et al,
I hope your Christmas Day is perfect. I have just escaped from the family
and am listening to a CD of some beautiful harp music played by an American
harpist. It is a present from an American cousin knowing how much I enjoy
harp music being Welsh.
I am sure that the name must be Adeliza which I have come across when
researching my Welsh ancestry. There were ten listed on the 1881 Census for
Wales. People often add an "H" in front of a vowel and that is probably how
the enumerator heard it.
Alison did your mother enjoy her special surprise and did you manage to keep
it from her until the last moment?
Happy Christmas everyone,
Margaret Harvey

Subject: [POWYS] Headliza ? Headeliza ?
Is there a Welsh name similar to Headliza or Headeliza?
I am looking at a friend's family, his Great Grandfather was John LAMB
from
Altrincham. His first wife seems to have died so he remarried
Headliza
JONES in Altrincham in 1888.
In the 1891 census she is
Headeliza LAMB Age 46 born Stourbridge Staffordshire
In the 1901 census she is
Headliza LAMB Age 56 born Knighton, Radnorshire
I can't find any other occurrences of either name on Ancestry so it makes
me
wonder if it is a corruption of a Welsh name.
There is a Elizabeth JONES born 1844 born Knighton living in Kingswinsford
(near Stourbridge) in 1861. She seems the most likely contender.
