Dear Tomi,
When I find the above statement beneath an IGI entry I take it as a warning
that the details are not to be relied upon!
In most cases the details were submitted over a decade ago, and *may* be the
result of sloppy research, especially for entries relating to Wales.
The IGI is an index, so its entries should always be verified by reference
to reliable original sources. Many of the patron-submitted entries have no
source details and therefore cannot be directly verified. Clicking on the
"Source Call No." link will provide you with details of the microfilm or
microfiche of the relevant "Patron ordinance submission sheets" (also known
as "Patron submitted forms"). You can then order the film for study at your
nearest LDS Family History Library in the forlorn hope that some verifiable
sources are cited or a viable patron contact address is given.
Unfortunately, as far as I'm aware, Patron submitted forms cannot be viewed
on-line.
When using the IGI, I find it much safer to work only with those entries
that are declared to have been *extracted* from original sources, such as
parish church registers. These *can* be verified because details of the
original sources can be found by clicking on the "Source Call No." link.
Kind regards,
John
