I found an old letter, 1977, stating that my family that came over to the States in 1880,
left Wales for the following reasons:
?
"Granadpa? (spelling) raised Hereford cattle in Wales, but Black Leg got into the
herd and they were dying off, so he sold out and
with Grandma, the seven kids, and their man and maid servants came to the United
States"
They first went to Missouri, then to Washington State, Roslyn, Renton and finally Seattle.
The family worked for the first years
in the coal mines.
?
My question I have is: does anyone know what the Black Leg is?
?
The area they left was Bwlch, Talabont, Usk, and Crickhowell.
?
The old family will shows David Richmond was living at Pentwyn Bwlch, in the parish of St.
Michael Cwmdu,
County Brecon.
?
?Any information of ideas would be appreciated.
?
Thanks
