Hi All
Does anyone know someone who goes under the name 'rhiannonwil', who, ten
years ago, was enquiring about "the Haycock family based in Pontnewynydd,
Monmouthshire (modern day Gwent) Wales . . ." ?
She mentioned: "James D Haycock (my grandfather) in the late 1800's/ early
20th century when he may have worked in Ottawa, Canada (family legend says
he worked on public monuments in Ottawa - and he was a stone mason). James D
Haycock was born in 1880 in Wales. His father - James Haycock (variously
spelt Haycox and Haycocks) died in 1880 in a pit disaster before James D was
born."
Well, there's a memorial card currently available on eBay (ending 7/5 13:42)
for James Haycock (snr) (aged 26), who was a Dukey Rider at Risca Colliery
and died, along with 117 other people and 34 horses, in the explosion at the
pit on 15th July 1880:

The card states that he was interred at the Independent Chapel, Pontywain.
I may bid for this, if no relation shows up before the deadline.
Best regards
