Dear John,
Thank you very much for your help. I have been able to get some
information about my ancestors including birth certificates, death
certificates, burial information and census information. I started the
project awhile ago and got a lot of information from
. If I
upgrade to their premium membership, I guess I can get some information
about the ancestors from UK. Here there are genealogy books with compiled
records that are usually called a millennium collection and also several
published genealogies. They are available on the internet through google
books. Also if I go to the state library of each state, they have books
which can be searched. Several people have indicated that they have done
their research in that way. They are also societies such as the Daughters
and Sons of the American Revolution and the Winthrop Society which document
ancestors that were involved in the American Revolution and the early
colonies and those societies publish books of their members research. So
it is quite a task as you say. I am going to keep up the search.
Best regards,
Cheryl

Dear Cheryl,
You are wise to try to confirm your Powell ancestry with proper records,
but
you have a major research project on your hands!
Your first task must be to work backwards from your parents' generation,
documenting the link to each earlier Powell generation, one step at a time.
If you are successful, you will eventually reach the Powell immigrant from
whom you are descended. You'll then have to try to identify him and his
family over here in Wales. This will be no easy task because the name
Powell
is so common here. It may or may not be possible to make this link. Even if
you are successful, you may well find there is no evidence for a connection
to the Powells of Castle Madoc.
There is much discussion online about the Castle Madoc Powell lineage, but
very little reliable documentation. For the present, you should probably
forget about any link with the Castle Madoc Powells. Just trace your
ancestry back one generation at a time and see where it goes.
Just out of interest, the 16th century property known as Castle Madoc House
is now a "boutique hotel":
www.castlemadoc.com/
The original motte and bailey castle is long gone and Castle Madoc House
was
built on the site circa 1588. The house has undergone late 17th century
remodelling and 19th century extensions (see
www.castlewales.com/madoc.html).
Some of the original castle earthworks, excavated in the 1960s, are still
visible behind the house (see:

Kind regards,
John

Subject: [POWYS] Powell ancestry.
I am looking for information about my Powell ancestry. According to my
understanding, my ancestor was William Powell brother of Thomas Powell who
was born in Castle Madoc. I am the daughter of Lora Powell. I would like
to have records such as birth, death or marriage certificates to confirm
the lineage and I would be most grateful for any assistance. I would also
like to visit Castle Madoc and I would appreciate any information about
being able to visit whomever is living there.
Best regards,
Cheryl Young
