For Mike John,
Whilst I agree with a lot of what you say about the I.G.I. I have to say
your assumption that it is the same all over Wales is not always the case.
I did a research in Merionethshire, particularly Llanddwywe Parish back to a
marriage in 1712, trying to find the source of a family double name that has
come down the generations and into the following one after mine. The one
name was Hugh, and the other was Pritchard. I believe I did find the original
in this marriage of 1712 and I had to follow the patrynomic system
throughout. I was probably lucky that this particular line stayed in the same parish
before a later marriage took place and I had to start my research in the
neighbouring parish of Llanenddwyn. I think from memory it was . Elena Hugh and
Richard Evan. Leading on to the later name of Pugh from ap Hugh and
Pritchard from ap Richard.
Anyway, as I said, the I.G.I. can be difficult if the father's first name is
not known. So there I will agree with you.
Best regards,
Maureen
