Hello Ruth & Lesley,
Yes, Mary is 2 in 1861. Looking at the image again I can see that what I
mistook to be a 1 in front of the 2 is the tail end of a 7 written on the
line above.
Mary appears to be a servant in 1871 in the household of William Wallace,
the vicar of St. Luke's Church, Burdett Rd. Mary is enumerated with the
vicar and his sister, Matilda at 28 Cottage Grove, Eastside, Mile End Old
Town.
There is a possible reference for John Ward's death in the Sept. Quar. 1890,
registered at Mile End Old Town, 1c, 351

Hi Lesley & Rina
I think John Ward's daughter is aged 2 in 1861.
From Free BMD:
Marriage of John Ward to Mary Ann Elizabeth
Ferris was registered in
September quarter 1858 ( ie marriage was in July, Aug, or Sept).
Birth of daughter reg in March quarter 1859 - Mary Elizabeth Theresa Ward -
Mile End District.
Do you know whether there were other children of this marriage, Lesley, or
is this Mary E T ward your direct ancestor? She was not at home in 1871
when census was taken, but is with her widowed father aged 22 in 1881.
Hope this helps.
Ruth
