Hi
Try the explaination on this site
http://mysite.wanadoo-members.co.uk/cyfarthfa_ironworks/page8.html
"No. 4. Mary Evans, 18 or 19 years old, blast-furnace filler:
I help to fill the blast furnace with iron and limestone; the work is very
hard, and the rests short. I work the seven days or seven nights, as there
is no cessation of labour on the blasts. "
I usually use
http://www.census1891.com/occupations-i.htm for occupations
but that job wasn't listed

Hi,
In researching my family I find "filler" listed as an occuption on some of
documents. Researching I find a filler worked in a 'iron works', but not
sure
what they "filled". Could someone expand on the work a filler did?
Thanks Jim Jones
