Searching for Francis Adams
Message for Joseph Martin
I have found a Francis Adams in 1841, he is on his own in Wenlock Madeley Shropshire. He
is 45, and is a J Shoemaker. I expect J is journeyman. His wife isn’t there. I hope you
can find it from this info.

Hi Joseph,
I've had a look around Ancestry for Francis (1820) and found his Baptism
at St. Martins in the Bull Ring, Birmingham, with no date of birth.
This man's father was a Francis, a cordwainer (Shoemaker). You might
find out more by looking at a Commercial Directory. But note, only the
owner of the premises will be there. A worker, journeyman or apprentice
won't be listed. As Francis (1820) was in Llandegley by the time of the
1841 Wales census you have to ask why? Had he as a young man just left a
dirty Birmingham for the countryside? Or was he taken there as a child
by his parents? If this option was the case then look for the burial of
his parents in the area.
Some historical directories can be found at this university site for
free
https://www2.le.ac.uk/library/find/specialcollections/specialcollections/...
You could also try Apprenticeship records, where they exist.
There are some trees on Ancestry which seem to have mixed up Radnorshire
in Wales with a Radnor in Cornwall!!!
Good luck
Mike

Hello from the Chicago area,
For some time I have had trouble locating information about my third great
grandfather, so I write to ask for any possible suggestions.
My Francis Adams married Sarah Davies on 25 May 1847 in Knighton,
Radnorshire. His father was Francis Adams, a shoemaker, and his mother was
Sarah. He was born and baptized on 10 February 1820 in Birmingham,
Warwickshire, England.
I have not been able to locate any information about his parents. Would
anyone have any suggestion(s) where I might search. No success on Find My
Past.
Thank you for considering this request.

Hello Mike,
Thank you very much for your response - the only response. I suspect that
I have hit a dead end seeking the parents of my Francis Adams (1820). It is
more than a brick wall. I just cannot locate anything about them. A
marriage record would be great!!
I really appreciate the information, because I had not found Francis Adams
in the 1841 census. Now I have a new detail to add to his biography. I have
no idea why he was there and cannot even speculate.
I will try the directories, but I am not hopeful.
Best regards,
Joseph

As I’m sure others will have advised you by now, there is no Radnor in Cornwall.
