Subject: Powys Archives Survey
POWYS ARCHIVES: PAST COLLECTIONS - FUTURE DIRECTIONS
People are being asked for their views on Powys Archives.
We are seeking funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund for an exciting new
project which will greatly improve the way we house our records. The new
accommodation in Llandrindod Wells, Powys will make the archives much more
accessible and will transform the Archive Service into a highly valued
long-term community heritage asset.
Better accommodation will improve the way we manage the Archives collections
and is critical for the future care and storage of documents. However we
want the project to be much more than this, and there is a strong commitment
to ensure people and communities use the archives and learn about the
collections.
Our project, Past Collections - Future Directions will enable the archives,
volunteers and community groups to work together to develop, expand and
preserve the ongoing story of how we live in Powys.
We want to open up the county's history through activities such as talks,
exhibitions, displays, group visits, and learning sessions tailored to a
wide variety of audiences from all backgrounds and levels of interest.
Through this outreach work the project will aim to generate interest in
archives, and to encourage and train a body of volunteers. In particular,
we hope that volunteers will be willing to help digitise collections, which
we will then aim to make available online.
We want to make sure that heritage that has been hidden is made accessible,
and we want to ensure that we use our written heritage to help people
understand the culture and history of the county of Powys.
Before we apply for grant funding we are gathering views on what people
think about Powys Archives, and seeking information about what would
encourage visitors and volunteers.
Please take part in our survey and help us make sure our archives
collections are looked after for you and future generations to use. The
questionnaire is available online via

People who do not have internet access can obtain a paper copy by contacting
Powys Archives, County Hall, Llandrindod Wells, Powys, LD1 5LG or telephone

Thank you very much
